Alan is a results-driven leader and management consultant with experience spanning government management, strategy, and policy, business operations, compliance auditing, and grant administration. As the founder and Principal Consultant of Blue Sky Consulting, Alan leverages his deep expertise to provide high-level government, business, grant, and audit advisory services, with a dedicated focus on guiding government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and businesses toward operational excellence.
Alan has nearly 30 years experience in business operations management, organizational and workforce assessment, grant administration, and compliance in the public and private sectors, including 14 years running a boutique consultancy focused on business operations and grants. He spent 15 years in federal OIGs as a deputy director, strategic planning coordinator, and auditor, and 3 years as a federal grants policy analyst. Alan has conducted public and private sector organizational assessments and compliance audits in excess of $70 million, and has participated on assistance review committees for a $100 million program with $10 million individual awards. Prior to his federal and consulting work, Alan was a business operations manager for a Fortune 500 company and a large nonprofit. He has served on the board for several nonprofit organizations, and has been an active volunteer for community and school groups. Alan’s education includes an executive leadership certificate from the American University School of Public Affairs, an MBA in management, and a BBA in accounting. Alan keeps his knowledge current through 60 annual hours of continuing professional education focused on strategic planning, organizational assessment, team dynamics, and compliance.
